Does anyone have a cure for the Shingles?
Posted by admin under Shingles Cure
My mom is suffering with the shingles and nothing that the Dr. has given her has helped and she is suffering.
Three oral agents are currently being prescribed, including acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex) for genital herpes.
Shingles is a form of the same disease (although it is NOT sexually transmitted). These antiviral medications will work on shingles…. if you can get your doctor to prescribe them.

I have heard of any cures as yet.
I feel sorry for anyone who is suffering from it.

There is nothing to cure shingles. There are medications to ease the symptoms and shorten the time you have them. If your mom is suffering, get her back to her doctor and demand better symptom control. It is her right to not be in pain.

Shingles are painful, usually steroids and lotion sometimes pain pill depending on how bad. Nerve pain is hard to deaden. They said the steroids and ointment do more. Web md is a good site for remedies rx and over the counter as well.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I had it years ago. The doc gave me antibiotics, and a hypodermic needle in all my skin sores. It went away after about two weeks. It was nasty, and I feel sorry for anyone who has this.

sorry, but if you get to them within 24 48 hours there is something to stop them after that it is misery

I don’t know that there is a cure for shingles. I had them once when I was about 18 (a very traumatic time for me). The outbreak that I had was small, just bigger than a silver dollar. My Mother-in-law stuck about a table spoon of baking soda on the area and then covered it loosely with a gauze pad and tape. Mostly the area felt like a bad bruise, but it would sting terribly when a bubble burst. The baking soda took all of the sting away. This is my only experience. I hope it helps. By the way, my mother just recently told me that she found out that shingles are contagious. I had never heard that but you may want to check into it. Good luck

I don’t have my book with me, but there is a lot of expert advice from two doctors in Prescription For Natural Cures by Balch and Stengler.
I do remember that oral lysine 500 mg 3 times daily on an empty stomach was mentioned, and capsaicin oimtment or vitamin E oil topically was supposed to alleviate the pain. Lomatium or Olive leaf extract has reputed antiviral effects. Vitamin C 500 mg every 4 hours or so, and so on. Check ur local helth food store for a copy; it’s worth a look-see just for the discussion.
Good luck!

poor thing. i had shingles 2 yrs ago. i didnt really scratch so not many marks remain (though i still have one unoticable one under my nose). my story was that the friggin doctor diagnosed me with cold sores- contracted by kissing, primarily. i told him ‘ i didnt kiss anyone!" he gave me some useless gel to apply on my face anyway. its really painful (shingles, not the gel). looks terrible. well, the condition didnt get better. i went to the hospital. they said it was shingles, and that once you got it, you wont get the chicken pox as it is of the same strain. ( but if you got chicken pox then shingles, you may get shingles again). it subsided like 1 and a 1/2 months later. unfortunately, nothing to do about the pain. it hurt a lot as well. couldnt smile or laugh. terrible!!!

There is no cure for shingles. However, the symptoms can be controlled, especially if treated at an early stage before the blisters begin to appear. Most attacks clear up on their own. However, shingles can reoccur

Have your mother speak to her doctor about Lyrica – it’s the only medication that has been approved for post-herpetic neuralgia (pain associated with shingles). Also, topical lidocaine (Lidoderm) might be helpful.

Shingles in adults is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox in children. (herpes zoster virus). The incubation period is between 14 and 21 days. Symptoms start with a skin rash, often a fever, headache, an aching muscles are part of it. The rash manifests as small, very painful clusters of pimples, then blisters, which form along a sensory nerve on the skin of the chest, neck, face, stomach or limbs. These pink or white blisters contain a cler fluid, which may later become pus. They dry up and disappear in about a week, but the irritation may last for a longer time. Shingles can be treated similarly to chicken pox, except or the use of detoxification and satisfying the increased nutritional need for B vitamins. It is important not to scratch the affected areas, as it could cause scarring or a secondary infection. To help ease the pain at home, use cool compesses or ice packs to dull the pain. Relieve the itching with calamine lotion and put a few tablespoons of oatmeal, cornstarch or baking soda in your bath water. The blisters will dry up in a few days and become covered with scales. After all the blisters have scabbed, the disease is no longer contagious.
You cannot catch shingles from someone. However if you have never had chicken pox, there is a small chance that you will get chicken pox when you come in contct with fluid from broken blisters of someone with shingles. Newborns are particularly at risk.

From what I have heard, there is no cure and the amount of time it is active differs in each person.
I hope your doctor finds the right cure for her.
